What should she eat before a 5:30 practice?
School lets out at three. Training starts at 5:30. That gap in the middle is the one most families get wrong, and it's almost never because anyone is feeding their kid badly. The timing is just working against you.
The two-part answer
Most young players do best with a real meal about two hours before training, then something small and familiar around half an hour out. The meal does the heavy lifting. The snack tops up the tank and settles nerves.
What the meal looks like
Something they already eat. Build it on a starchy base with some protein and a bit of fruit. Stick to what they know. Right before a session is the wrong time to try a new food.
- A rice or pasta bowl with chicken
- A sandwich with fruit on the side
- Last night's leftovers and a glass of milk
What the top-up looks like
Small, quick, no effort. A banana. A granola bar. An applesauce pouch. A few crackers. If they get nervous before training, keep this one very light.
After training
That first hour after the whistle matters more than most parents expect. Something in the car works fine. Chocolate milk, a sandwich, some fruit. Then a proper dinner once you're home.
AthFuelPath puts these times around your athlete's real session, so nobody is doing the math at 3 PM.
Sort this one for good.
Set it up once. The app answers it every week, for every session on their schedule.
